DONNA: But because you’re just an ordinary man, you sort of chickened out right there. We’ve got a minute or so left before we go to break. Would you just look at our viewers right now and just speak to those that feel like they’re ordinary right now?
BRIAN: Yeah. I just want to say listen! I understand what it means to feel that ordinary. In fact, I say this all the time. I’m just a skinny man trapped in a fat man’s body trying to follow Jesus! And that’s the truth! And you know I don’t have any special anointing. I just simply wanted to believe Jesus and I had a hunger in my heart to see God move! And I just want to just encourage you! Just take this step! It’s worth the risk! You know I still feel a thousand butterflies hit my stomach every day and I’ve been doing this now for 20 years! And so I just want to encourage you to take that step of risk and love because you’ll see the kingdom of God! Step past the fear!
DONNA: Thank you! Well, we’re going to take a break and we’re going to be gone just for a moment. So stay where you are and make sure that you come back and see us! And you can see in Brian’s life he was just an ordinary guy like most of us! Guys or ladies! But most of us feel pretty ordinary and as far as the kingdom goes. But when we come back, I want Brian to share with you what God is doing in his life now [Music] for this ordinary guy! So you will be amazed! And we’ll be back in just a moment with more of “Something More!”
[Music]
DONNA: Welcome back to “Something More!” We’re having a great time today with Brian Blount! And Brian, you said a phrase that I just loved. I loved it! “It’s not your ability that counts, but it’s your availability!”
BRIAN: Yes! You know my good friend Robbie Dawkins is the one that actually said that. He said, “It’s not about your ability but about your availability!” And that’s such a truth that if we just become available, in the moment, God will put His ability on our availability! And so that’s what I’ve found simply is if we just step into the role, if we just say “yes,” He’s there to back us up and we just step into the moment cause God is already working!
DONNA: Yes.
BRIAN: And He’s just inviting us into that place!
DONNA: Yes! So does that if we can grasp what that phrase means, does that take the pressure off of us?
BRIAN: I think it really does!
DONNA: [Laughing] I think it does!
BRIAN: Yeah. Because if Jesus is the one that’s doing ministry and He’s inviting us in that place or if He’s just saying just be available, just be like the boy with the loaves and the fishes, right?
DONNA: Uh-huh.
BRIAN: Just give Him what you have, in that moment, in your hand!
DONNA: Uh-huh.
BRIAN: He’ll multiply it!
DONNA: Uh-huh.
BRIAN: He’ll do the miracle! He’ll do the rest!
DONNA: Yes. Yes. You know at the beginning of the program we talked about the phrase “from the sanctuary to the streets.”
BRIAN: Yeah.
DONNA: And that is basically what you do and that’s where God has brought you to from that little boy that needed love so desperately to that young man that was seeking a place to serve and now to taking the Gospel to the streets! Give us some examples of what that means.
BRIAN: Absolutely. You know I think it’s in, you can look it up later, but Matthew 10, 7 and 8 is really the whole basis. It says, “As you go.” And then Jesus says, “Proclaim this message!” But then also to demonstrate it! So you know as you go to Walmart, as I go to the movies, as I go on an Uber ride, as I’m on the airplane, I’m in a hotel, everyday occurrences! And I really believe we often miss the mission in the mundane!
DONNA: Uh-huh.
