KYLE: You’ve got a revelation about that. Tell us!
BRUCE: Yeah. Well so the one verse says “pray without ceasing.” And another verse says “pray about all things.” And so there’s a lot of people that say well how is that even possible? How can you pray without ceasing?
KYLE: Right.
BRUCE: I mean like I’ve got to go to work and I’ve got to take care of my kids and I’ve got all these things to do. And why is that important? And you know really if we look at the Bible beginning to end we find that Adam and Eve in the Garden in Genesis they were made to have relationship with God and so that’s what we’re –
KYLE: Constant!
BRUCE: Constant!
KYLE: Always on relationship with God?
BRUCE: They walked in the cool of the day.
KYLE: Right.
BRUCE: So we have to get the mindset that we were made to have relationship with God! And the most important thing of any kind of relationship is communication! You can’t have a good marriage without communication. You can’t have a good boss-employee relationship without good communication.
KYLE: Everything sours without good communication basically.
BRUCE: Absolutely! And it doesn’t matter if it’s a peripheral relationship, one that’s small, or one that’s really important like a spouse or a child. Good communication is the key to intimate relationship and because God wants intimacy with us! Because He wants that kind of crazy intimacy!
KYLE: That’s what He built us for!
BRUCE: That’s what he made us for!
KYLE: For a relationship with Him –
BRUCE: Exactly!
KYLE: To be friends with God!
BRUCE: And so because of that He wants us to have this communication that’s praying without ceasing. Praying about all things so we’re constantly plugged in, to Him!
KYLE: I think people when they think of prayer traditionally they think well I wake up in the morning. I do my morning prayers. I do my prayers before I eat. My bedtime prayers. That’s not enough? How is it possible as you just said with all of what we do throughout the day, all of our responsibilities?
BRUCE: Absolutely.
KYLE: Our job, our kids. How is it possible to truly pray without ceasing?
BRUCE: What happens is it becomes a mindset. It becomes a lifestyle. It becomes an intentional choice decision. We’ve all got these thoughts going around in our head and if we can make the choice if we can make the decision to focus those thoughts on God. Invite Him into every situation. You know whether you’re on the drive to work or taking care of the kids focusing those thoughts, aiming them at God.
KYLE: I was going to ask what that actually looks like in our everyday lives? But as you said it’s driving to work! It’s when you’re washing the dishes.
BRUCE: And being in communication. Aiming. You know those, thought we are going around in our head all the time anyway so if we make the choice decision to focus those thoughts towards God and turn our thinking into prayer. Literally turning your thinking into prayer!
KYLE: Tell us what that sounds like. Is it dear heavenly Father? Most Gracious. Will you do this for me? What does that look like? [Laughing]
BRUCE: Well let’s just use the really mundane. Let’s say you’re pulling into a place and you’re going to park and you know instead of saying oh I hope I get a good parking spot you turn into a prayer and say, “Lord, I’m looking for, favor in the front. Can I get a close parking spot?” So I mean just talking to Him.
KYLE: So it really is a conversation!
BRUCE: Conversation. Yeah.
KYLE: We’re not talking about elaborate words.
