Sid: We want everyone everywhere to be hungry for God, starving for God. Now I just happen to have in my hands a brand new book it’s not even in the book stores yet it’s called “God Hunger.” I have the author on the telephone; she is co-pastor of “In His Presence Church” in Woodland Hills, California, Desiree Ayers. Desiree comes from a Hollywood background; she was a stuntwoman; her father was probably the best paid stuntman in Hollywood. But she had a problem, she had a secret problem, but it wasn’t a secret for long, she had a weight problem. And however she was able to get it under control by not doing things that were life threatening. She was anorexic, bulimic. She would purge herself, she would take pills, and so she would look find but she got married and then all of a sudden she just lost control, gained weight and then went back to her old ways. Confessed to her husband who was a strong Christian as she was actually a new Christian and he said “No matter how many times you slip, no matter how many times you fall the word of God says you are healed and you are healed in Jesus Name.” And she realized that if she fell she didn’t have to go into condemnation and that was the beginning of a process in which God literally spoke to her and showed her step by step how to be free. And in affect as I understand your story Desiree, you found out that you were hungry and you were using the wrong thing to feed yourself. It wasn’t that you were hungry for food there was an emptiness inside of you but you were really hungry for God. Yet many Christians are hungry for God and they still fall back into getting their highs, if you will, and their enjoyment from food. So one of the keys that you found that is in Chapter 5 it’s called “Put Off Extra Weights” explain that.
Desiree: Yes and I think you know I’ve seen this helps so many people you know they have been Christians and have been dabbling weight issues. And the good news is there’s hope for you if your one of those where you feel like “Hey I’ve tried this, I’ve tried that, I’ve tried this book that diet and this prayer group.” It’s not over…. you’re still in the battle, but the good news is you can win this battle with Christ. One of the things that I’ve found in my own life and I’ve seen it with others, I talk about in chapter 5 of putting off the extra weights. And sometimes we can be carrying spiritual weights that actually manifest in our body, or I think kind of plug things up. And one of them is the area of forgiveness which I just think is the major for us to live a healthy victorious overcoming life. You know things happen in life where people betray us, they hurt us and I think it is absolutely crucial for you to live in divine health and keeping your body at its proper weight is part of being in divine health is that it doesn’t matter what’s happened to you that you remember how much God has forgiven you. That makes it easier to forgive other people. And where I first found this the first time I really started to deal with this was I’ve shared before. I was in a fire explosion and this was after I was healed of my eating disorder but I was in a fire explosion where I had my face, neck and arms burned in first, second and third degree burns.
Sid: Well, for those that haven’t heard that’s quite an event you were stuntwoman in Hollywood, and things did not work out the way it was scripted that sounds like an awful situation.
Desiree: It was an awful situation but God is able to take our awful situations when we turn our eyes to him and make a multitude of blessings out of them. And during that time when I was in the hospital one of the blessing that happened my girlfriend came in who sings in the Spirit so beautifully. We were singing in the Spirit and my mom walks in who I told you about earlier with a New Ager and she says “That sound is so beautiful, it sounds like angels singing.” Well, she right then asked Jesus into her heart and got baptized in the Holy Ghost and started singing in the Spirit with us. And so many wonderful things came out of this. When anybody leaves a job transition it can be very difficult. My whole life completely changed and I ended up just spending time every day when I left the hospital with my miracle I would spend time just reading the word, praying and going…
Sid: Wait a second though they don’t realize what kind of miracle. You went into the hospital what was wrong with you?
Desiree: I had my upper lip taken off it was burned off, my face neck, chest and arms were all burned in second and third degree burns.
Sid: And when you walked out of the hospital what did your Jewish doctor say to you?
Desiree: Doctor Grossman who is just a fantastic doctor he said “Desiree,” he goes “this is so far beyond medical recovery it’s your faith in God that heals you.” And he would come in on a regular basis and see me with my Bible and he would say “Desiree stay right there” because most good doctors have seen people that should have died or should have end up scarred they seen it go beyond medical recovery just as they seen people that should have lived that died. So they know, they have an understanding about faith in God, they’ve seen it in action with people. And I have an open invitation which I’ve taken advantage of over the last quite a few years here to go into the hospital at any time I want and get to pray for burned victims. So I go in periodically and I get to lead people to the Lord there which is really a treat.
Sid: Okay, so you left the hospital and then what?
Desiree: Well, then you know I had some people that… you know because I’m no longer a working stuntwoman, were no longer interested in being my friends because I wasn’t in position to get them a lot of work. And so I had some people completely cut me off. One was one of my close friends, I got started in the business and I had a very difficult time with being really mad at her. And I was walking with my husband one day and he was just saying “Desiree you know you have to forgive her” and I said “I know” and so I would pray and we prayed a prayer and I felt great what would happen is I would be around a group of people and some people that did like her and would bring up her name and start talking about her and I would chime in. And all the stuff, you know all the hurt feelings, all the anxiety, all the depression. Because the Bible talks about where there’s un-forgiveness it talks about tormentors being let in it’s almost like they torment your mind. And so I was in prayer one day and God gave me the scriptures in Luke 6:27 and 28 where it says to “Bless your enemies to pray for them and to do good.” Those were three key things and when I started to pray I started to get insight and compassion which meant now I could bless, blesses the next time was in a group of people and they brought up her name and were saying unedifying things I made sure that my words were edifying; I would say something good about the person and I would say the good things about her.
Sid: That’s how you can really tell if you have really forgiven or not when someone’s name comes up that did something bad to you and if you will not say something bad about them when you’re capable of doing it.
Desiree: You’re capable and when you bless them it’s almost like even if there’s like gut feeling where at first you feel very uncomfortable but if you start to bless them it like breaks the back of the tormentor. It’s an amazing spiritual principal where it just leaves, that icky feeling inside of you leaves because you are speaking words of life. And then it says you do good you actually go out of your way, you send them a present, you do something kind for the person. And I found those as such steps of freedom. As I’ve watched people you know that have had different pains, different situations they have gone through whether it’s physical pain or actual weight they’re carrying but as they are willing forgive it was almost like people that had problems of constipation were no longer constipation were no longer constipated any more. You know all the different things that you can do to hold on to hold in spiritually they can manifest in the body and as people would forgive I’ve just seen people really get free even in the area of their eating disorders.
Sid: Now you have the most amazing supernatural prayer in your book; it’s called “The Father’s Love Letter.” Why is that there?
Desiree: Well, I think that it’s so important that people know how much they’re loved by God and woman with eating disorders lots of times have a very low self-image. They don’t really see themselves as worthy or really tremendously loved by God. But I think as they start to see how wonderful their Father sees them and how much He loves them, that’s a whole other step to healing and to see yourself in relationship with your Dad as His daughter created in His image and likeness.
Sid: Now the book is brand new so you don’t have a lot of testimonies from the book. As you taught this throughout the years and you’ve been free for 23 years, I notice some people right books on how to lose weight and a few years later they’re very fat. How have you managed to stay this way for 23 years?
Desiree: Well, everything I have in the book I live by these principals, this is a daily way that I live. I don’t eat breakfast before I eat my spiritual food, I get up in the morning and I have time with the Lord first before I eat my physical breakfast I eat my spiritual food. And that just tends to really keep me on the right path throughout the day and I’ve learned as a young Christian on the days I didn’t spend time with God it seemed like there were more challenging days. And through life I’ve learned there is a couple of ways to learn things; you can learn by life’s hard knocks, or you could start your day sitting at the feet of Jesus talking to Him through His word and really getting your day off to the right start.
Sid: You know this this chapter 3 is so important we don’t have time to go into it write it, read it and run. How important was it to write your goals down and to speak them out loud?
Desiree: Again I think it’s another principal that the world uses and they get all the victory and all the results. So I love seeing Christians just put into practice what the word says. The scripture that I have for that is Habakkuk 2:2 and 3 “Where it says “Right the visions, make it plain on tablets that he who reads it or he may run who reads it.”
