Sid: I’m telling you we’re about ready to see the greatest move of God’s Spirit on planet earth. We’re about ready to see what a Baptist Church hangs a little sign out and says “Revival Meeting” and that’s just a code word for an evangelist. I mean where God shows up there are going to be more souls saved in the next few years than all of history. But God wants you in shape physically. Now, I believe that God will heal all of your diseases, but I believe that many of us are tempting God and we’re eating bad stuff; we’re believing God to be healed. And in His mercy many of us get healed but then we continue eating the bad stuff and we get sick again. And we wonder “Why is this going on?” Well, I have Dr. Jordan Rubin on the telephone; he’s a Messianic Jew and I’m speaking to him at his offices in West Palm Beach, Florida. And you’re probably familiar with his book “The Maker’s Diet” because it was on the New York Bestsellers List for 16 weeks. Dr. Rubin has studied; I know that you have investigated all these different alternative things and vitamins and all these different cure-alls when you were fighting for your life in addition to your investigation Dr. Rubin?
Jordan: Well, I like many other health professionals got into this industry and this practice based upon my own person struggle with health. And I regain my health after trying everything under the sun by following a Biblically based health plan. Once I did I realized that my mission in life was to help other people particularly the children of God, change and transform they’re health one life at a time. In doing so I studied natural-pathic medicine which is a medical science that involves using medicine as a last resort. Not a first resort, we use everything from diet therapy; we learn about herbs and homeopathy we learn about body therapies, aroma therapy. It is a non-drug healing system that really is the original form of medicine. I went on to get a medical degree in natural-pathetic medicine and also earned my doctorate in nutrition and natural-therapies. My life though is not devoted to having a practice; my life is devoted to spreading the message of the good news of God’s health plan to the world. Not for the purpose of getting us healthy; but for the purpose of getting us healthy so that we can fulfill our mission in life so we can be around with lots of our friends for the blowing of the final trump when we will all spend eternity with Yeshua haMashiach. So that’s where I received my training; but the best training I ever received was from a relationship with God. When He allowed me to go through a life threatening illness; come out the other side a new creature that He rebuilt and set me apart for His good works. And that’s where I stand today and I tell you Sid it’s an exciting time to be alive and it’s an exciting time to share this part of the message to God’s people because it seems to be something that we’ve neglected for far too long.
Sid: Jordan, what do you think about the diets that are pure vegetarian; there are many people. There are many Christians that are on these diets.
Jordan: I think that a vegetarian diet especially if you’re eating more fruits and vegetables and less of the grains and other foods can be healthy for a very short period of time. But I believe something in our bodies desires and needs protein that only comes from animal food. I travel around the world and I see different people that are vegans, which means they only eat fruits, vegetables and anything that is not from an animal. And I see them and they don’t look healthy and they look really gaunt and they don’t have energy. Then I see people that follow a mixed Biblical diet which involves healthy animal foods, healthy animal products and eggs and wonderful protein foods much like “The Maker’s Diet” says. And I see a great level of health.
Sid: What do you think about the Atkins or the low carb?
Jordan: I think the low carb concept which addresses the overproduction of insulin is a very good step in the right direction. The problem is these diets acquiesce to modern taste; so they allow you to eat unclean animal foods; things like pork rinds and food bars that have a bunch of chemicals in them. They have neglected both criteria that I believe are important for food. Number 1 “Did God create it for food? And Number 2 “Is it in a form that is healthy for the body?” And if you look at most low carb diets they are not compatible with either of those two although there are some good principals to them. And Dr. Atkins was my doctor at one point. Barry Sears the author of “The Zone” was my nutritionist. I went to the best of the best but there was always something lacking. And what was lacking was the truth that we have learned in scripture that truly sets us free.
Sid: Okay, Jordan you were talking on yesterday’s broadcast when we ran out of time about milk. Milk is good but not in the form we get it; what did you mean?
Jordan: When we look at dairy products especially in the Bible and throughout history they were consumed in two ways. One straight from the animal; I man straight. I mean they milked and then they drank or they would culture the milk into what we know today as yogurt; or buttermilk or kefir which is a cultured dairy, or soft cheeses and hard cheeses. The reason they made cultured dairy products is because dairy is perishable and they needed to store it at room temperature and drag it around with them wherever they went. So they made cultured dairy; and today the only two forms of dairy I recommend are unpasteurized dairy that is medically certified. There are certification bodies to certify raw milk, or clean raw milk or cultured dairy products that may come from pasteurized milk but some of the helpful enzymes and beneficial micro-organisms have been returned.
Sid: Give me an example of one.
Jordan: Well, a cultured dairy product would be a yogurt; that you find that’s full fat, not low-fat or fat free. I’ve never seen a cow or goat produce fat free or low fat milk it comes out with the fat. Cultured plain yogurt or kefir which you can aid honey and wonderful things to. And you’ll find that at the health food store but many grocery stores are now carrying that. And that would be considered a healthy cultured dairy product.
Sid: Okay, what about soy, soy is so big now; what’s your spin on that?
Jordan: I believe that soy is something that can be consumed in small amounts in a form that was traditionally consumed which is fermented or cultured much like the dairy that I talked about. I’m talking about miso soup you can get at Japanese restaurants or you can make it at home. Tempeh which is a fermented soybean curd; tofu is pretty good too and also some other condiments such as natto, which is a fermented soy condiment and soy sauce. The problem is that we have taken soy beans which we used to export to Japan or feed to the pigs and we have decided that we can make everything out of it from a meat substitutes; to ice creams to wallpaper. The over consumption of soy protein in the form of cheeses, protein powders and…
Sid: Wait a second, I eat soy cheese; what’s wrong with that?
Jordan: Soy cheese is extremely processed. It takes a lot of processing to get soy to become cheese. And soy is very high in nutrient inhibitors.
Sid: Inhibitors? That’s not what it says on the wrapping.
Jordan: Well, would you buy it if it did?
Sid: Of course not. (Laughing)
Jordan: I know certain cookies that look beautiful when you take them out of the box but it doesn’t give the warnings on the box of those either.
Sid: What happens to someone that consumes these what did you call them inhibitors?
Jordan: Nutrient inhibitors are found in very large quantities of soy bean and grain.
Sid: So what does that do to people that eats them.
Jordan: It blocks your absorption of key minerals; it’s funny because our conversation Sid of calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. It blocks their absorption. So many people are out there with osteoporosis and low absorption of minerals and other nutrients. It’s mainly because of the foods they are eating, and sometimes they’re eating them in the name of health. I’ll tell you that you can get plenty sick by eating foods from a health food store today.
Janie: You know I have found that too and also I found in your book was about nuts and also the grains and soaking them. I love nuts but I did something that you recommended and that was…
Sid: Now Janie, I go out and I buy those little 50 cent packets of salted peanuts every day.
Janie: We’re not letting you do that anymore. (Laughing)
Sid: Tell me what’s wrong with that Jordan?
Jordan: Well, interesting enough peanuts are not a nut they’re a legume.
Sid: So whats wrong with my legume, leg oom; how do you pronounce that? (Laughing)
Jordan: The thing is that there’s two good ways to eat nuts and seeds and getting them roasted and if it’s not roasted Sid in harmful oils and yours maybe depending on where you get them. Roasted nuts are more digestible than raw.
Sid: I get them at the convenience store that has gas stations that has these little plastic packets.
Jordan: Well, you might want to read the ingredients because most likely those type of convenient snack foods have the wrong oils and high in trans fatty acids and are very dangerous. And then they’re overly salted with a form of salt that’s not very healthy. Well I hate to give you the bad news but ask Janie how to make some soaked and dehydrated nuts and seeds they’ll taste just as good…
Sid: Janie, can I buy them? Can I buy them, do I have to soak them?
Janie: Well, we’ll give you some but I went to a party 2 weeks ago and a lady made a gigantic soaked raw nuts that everybody was flipping from them.
Sid: Jordan, can I buy these soaked nuts? I mean on the road they have these soft peanuts, is that what you’re talking about?
Jordan: No, but you can absolutely buy what I’m talking about. And that brings me to probably my favorite part of “The Maker’s Diet” book. People like you want to eat healthy and what they say “Why buy this there, and I don’t have time to prepare these things, I eat at restaurants what can I do? Well, there’s a resource guide in the back of “The Maker’s Diet” that’s shopping for optimum health. It has 268 companies that provide the best foods, snacks, skin care products, healthy air and water purifiers, exercise equipment supplements.
Sid: You know before Janie went on the diet herself she said “Sid can I borrow your book because I like the back part of the book because that’s the best place of sources.”
Janie: Right and it has great recipes too. So it’s got everything.
Sid: How did you accumulate all of these places?
Jordan: Well, I have been such a fan of the natural food industry, but I see time and time again people walk into a health food store for the first time and their either turned off or they’re totally absolutely overwhelmed. What do I eat soy cheese, goat cheese, cow cheese or no cheese? So I said, “You know what I need to make it easy for people; I need to give them application tools.” And that’s what this guide is it shows you everything you need to go to a heath food or a grocery store.
Sid: Jordan you sold me; I’ve got to take my book; I’ve got to read it….
