Sid: Well this Friday begins what are known as the High Holy Days, Rosh Hashanah and then days later Yom Kippur and then Feast of Tabernacles. Well, Rosh Hashanah begins this Friday and on Yom Kippur we’re told as we study the scriptures about 2 goats. My guest Michael Lane is a tremendous Bible Teacher especially in the Bible Festivals. And Michael tell me a bit about the 2 goats.
Michael: Well there was 2 goats put before the Lord just like Barabbas and Jesus Pilate turned them around and faced them towards the crowd. There was 2 goats put in front of the folks in Jerusalem. One would be for the sending away of our sins it would be the azazel the goat of departure the sending away of our sins. And the other one will be slain and the blood will be put on the altar. The Lord’s goat symbolized the Messiah in His death He died to reconcile and that was the first goat and the scapegoat that went off into the wilderness and thrown off a cliff supposedly symbolized the Messiah in His resurrection. He lives to reconcile some people think that He just went off into the wilderness and whether He was thrown off a cliff or not we don’t know but the word forgiveness actually means to bear or to carry away. The scapegoat is very interesting for us because it represents, the scapegoat represents the church today because everything that the Lord has done He’s calling us to do of course not dying for our sins. But the scapegoat was presented before Yahweh along with the Lord’s goat so the church is presented before God with Christ. The scapegoat was also to be without spot or blemish back to the linen garments we spoke about yesterday and the washing and the cleansing and the incense. The scapegoat was also to be without spot or blemish with the Lord’s goat. So the Messiah and His church are both without spot and blemish and that’s our lives the fulfillment of these last days Feasts the fall Feasts in the light of the Lord’s coming back in preparation of His coming. This is what we’re looking forward to, what we’re to be walking in now. The scapegoat lived to reconcile, the Lord’s goat died to reconcile and the church lives to reconcile while the Messiah died to bring reconciliation. The scapegoat was involved in the sending away of sin in the ministry of forgiveness. And we now, the church, lives to reconcile while the Messiah died to bring reconciliation. The scapegoat was involved in the sending away of sin in the ministry of forgiveness and we now the church His Body is involved in forgiveness of sins. And as the scapegoat was taken outside the camp bearing the reproaches of Israel so we’re called to come outside the camp Hebrews 13 says. And that’s funny because in society they refer to somebody that takes away someone else’s reproach as being the scapegoat. And we here that word a lot in life but this is where it came from.
Sid: You know Michael I’m sure you’re familiar with this but in the Talmud in Yoma 39 A& B it says that 40 years before the destruction of the temple there were 4 signs that occurred that really are unbelievable. Because what happened well I’ll say the Temple was destroyed in ’70 AD so 40 years before ’70 AD was around the year ’30 we know what happened ’30, and these 4 signs occurred in the Temple.
- Had to do with the scapegoat it says “The lot for the Lord’s goat did not come up in the right hand of the High Priest.” This was a very dangerous sign. And at the same time the majority of the Jewish people reject the Messiah the Talmud tells us that there were 4 very strange signs. The lot came up in the wrong hand.
- The scarlet cord that was tied to the door of the Temple on the Day of Atonement it stopped turning white after the scapegoat had been cast over the precepis and this was something this was suppose to turn white.
- The western most light in the Temple candelabra it wouldn’t burn. And it’s believed that this light was used to light the other candles of the candelabra so you couldn’t even lighting the candles in the Temple.
- Occurred when the Temple doors would open by themselves and the Rabbi’s saw this as an ominous fulfillment of Zachariah 11:1 which says “Open thy doors O Lebanon, that a fire may devour thy cedars.” The opening of the doors to let in the consuming fire foretold the destruction of the Temple itself by fire.
So these 4 signs God was obviously showing that He was displeased by something that had occurred 40 years before the Temple was destroyed which was approximately the year ’30. Isn’t that an amazing phenomena?
Michael: Yes, it’s amazing.
Sid: Now the question I pose to you is with all of these obvious things that are in the Talmud that God found unacceptable around the year ’30 AD. What sin did we Jewish people commit that caused God not accept our Yom Kippur sacrifices? Huh, one guess, we didn’t recognize the time of our visitation; Messiah Yeshua. You know Michael there’s an ancient Yom Kippur prayer in a Prayer Book, in traditional Jewish Prayer book and let me read this to you. “Our Righteous anointed has departed from us, horror has ceased us and we have none to justify us. He has born the yoke of our iniquities and our transgressions and is wounded because of our transgression. He bareth our sins on His shoulder that He may find pardon for our iniquities. We shall be healed by His wounds at the time that the Eternal will create Him” that’s the Messiah as a new creature. Isn’t that amazing that’s in a traditional Jewish prayer book for Yom Kippur. Can you picture Jewish people reading this being bathed in prayer by Christians in their community? And I just believe that this Yom Kippur which is 10 days from Friday is going to be a time in which many Jewish people are going to have revelations of Messiah. Michael would you… we talked earlier about the prayers are like the incense that goes up in the Temple to God. I think it’s time for some incense to go up to the Temple of God praying for the salvation of Jewish people throughout the United States. Would you pray that now?
Michael: Yes. Lord, we just thank You but we thank you for Passover time that’s about the blood being shed but Yom Kippur is really when all of the Jewish people are in synagogues. Lord we ask for revelation, that you would remove the scales and blinders Lord. We ask for revelation for Jerusalem Lord God, for Israel for your Jewish people all around for Rabbis that are heads of congregations all around in Australia. And just all the different countries Lord God that You would remove the scales and the blinders and that as they read these words Lord that they would get a revelation Lord. That they would even see the different dimensions of the word of God and that it’ll become alive Lord You’ve done that in my family and so many of 100’s and 1000’s of Jewish people throughout the world Lord God. Lord we thank You for revelation to our Jewish people during these Feasts of Succoth and Yom Kippur and Tabernacles Lord.
Sid: And Father God as the spiritual scales are coming off of the eyes not just of Jewish people but of Christians and that your understanding of the foundations of the entire New Covenant; of the foundations of the Festivals. Of the whole thing being… as Edith Schaffer the wife of the great theologian Francis Schaeffer wrote a book called “Christianity is Jewish.” Father remove the spiritual scales from the eyes of Gentile Christians to be able to see your heart, your compassion for Jewish people for the nation Israel. And Father God as these scales come off the eyes of Gentile Christians eyes let them also come off the eyes of Jewish people. Father God I pray the prayer of Yeshua would come to fruition that very final prayer that You prayed in John 17:21 MessiahYou prayed that “They, Jews and Gentiles, might be one.” Because when those two are one You said “So that the world would believe and that the same glory that is on Messiah will be on them.” Father God I pray for the rain of Tabernacles, the rain of Your Holy Spirit, I pray that that rain would begin to drip right now and come to fruition on Tabernacles in Yeshua’s Name I pray Amen. We just have a couple of minutes left Michael would you give us a little taste of the third festival coming up after Yom Kippur Feast of Tabernacles?
Michael: Yes, the Second Coming of the Lord, most people believe that it will be during the Feast of Tabernacles that’s the main event of these last 3 feasts. The Rosh Hashanah the blowing of the trumpets day and Yom Kippur the Day of Atonement really are in preparation of the ultimate feast of ingathering and of unity and faith and peace and anointing of the Feast of Tabernacles where the Lord actually comes and tabernacles with us. And it’s just an amazing prophecy that we can start living in and we can actually hasten His coming by praying the prayers that we just prayed and looking toward these feasts and reading the scriptures and trying to be that kind of believer.
Sid: Mischpochah if you haven’t gotten the message yet I believe that God wants you to be proud of your roots. And whether you’re African American, or white, or Hispanic, or Asian, or Latin, or any nationality yes it’s important to be proud of your heritage and of your roots. But how much more your spiritual roots. And your spiritual roots are found in the Bible, their found in the land of Israel, they’re found in the Old Covenant. And don’t get legalistic on me by taking these things because you feel you have to do it but recognize that you will have supernatural revelation of the last days. You will be used by God as a bridge builder between Jews and Christians. But you must understand your biblical roots.
