PATRICIA: And just my relationship with my natural dad. This man came and hugged me every Sunday. And at first, I’m like trying to avoid the guy, trying to run away!
PAT: [Laughs]
PATRICIA: But after I thought you know this is actually God sending this man! So I just think that we need to see this expression in our churches of the tangible love of God! But to the single moms, I just say you know the power of prayer! I mean God, I’ve seen God turn hearts. Turn prodigal kids away from addictions. Away from sex addictions. Away from ungodly relationships through a praying mom! Absolutely powerful!
PAT: Well you know I would come home. 16 years old. Mom and dad were in ministry. I was running from God!
PATRICIA: Oh!
PAT: And I could hear my mother praying in the Spirit!
PATRICIA: Wow!
PAT: I’d wake up with anointing oil on my forehead! My friends would spend the night and they’d go gee, what is that? You know I just really believe the most dangerous person towards hell is that praying mom that goes to battle!
PATRICIA: Absolutely!
PAT: And having that, we joke about it Karen and I, that we have a sleep disorder called revelation! God shows us in dreams what our kids are walking through!
PATRICIA: Yeah! Yeah.
PAT: My son’s a youth pastor out in California and God will speak to me this is happening right now. Talk to us how do you flow prophetically in your home with your kids?
PATRICIA: Well I think it’s very important to teach your children how to hear the voice of God!
PAT: Yeah!
PATRICIA: How – I’ll just say it. Mark Virkler. He’s a Baptist pastor. He took a year out of his life to learn how to hear God’s voice so he’s got some great keys that he teaches. And so I would just take his teaching and downside it to kid version and even at age 5, age 6 we taught our children how to hear the voice of God! Basically, it’s this. To dial down your own thoughts. Really get quiet before the Lord. Tune into that spontaneous flow of the Spirit. To watch. To look. To pay attention to what He’s saying and then to write it out. And so we actually taught them journaling! And saying, you know, around – as soon as they could learn to write they would have their time with God. They would their time in the Word of God and journal and just listen to the voice of God! And it’s amazing how that has, you know throughout their lives.
PAT: Yeah! That’s good.
PATRICIA: And how it’s so important in destiny and identity in, you know, who you’re going to marry [Laughs] to what are you going to do with your life? So having that, the tool of being familiar with the still small voice. Obviously, the most important way that God speaks to us is through the Word of God.
PAT: Right.
PATRICIA: And judging everything through the Word. But that is just so important, you know? And so it’s guided our kid’s lives. It’s hearing the voice of God and they are in turn living the fullness of really what they are called to do and be!
PAT: I love it! So talk to me, John and Patricia, God is using you! You’re overseeing an exploding church!
PATRICIA: Mmm.
PAT: How do you guard at home? How do you guard your family time? How do you guard? I think it’s that the battle of the clock and school and all the different stuff. What do you do guys do? Show me a night time moment at your house in the evening with your family. What do you all do?
PATRICIA: Yeah. Well, it’s funny that you say that. With the revival in Toronto, we had nightly meetings except for Monday night for 12 years!
PAT: Wow!
