Sid: My guest is Norvel Hayes one of the generals of the faith; I told one man today because he says every time I look at what I was before what I was before I became a believer in Jesus I get sad because I did all these things. I said, “I’ve got some news for you, take that entire testimony put it in a metal trash can and burn it and thank God that person doesn’t exist anymore.” And that’s a word for someone that’s listening to us right now. But I have followed your career for many years as a baby believer you were on the Full Gospel Businessman’s Circuit Norvel and so I heard you a lot and if I had gotten to know you there was a question that I wanted I didn’t even know that you even had a book on it. The question that I wanted to ask you is you told me that you did tell me you said publicly because I didn’t know you personally; that you had 14 businesses. Some of them were million dollar businesses and God was the best businessman in the world because He would tell you what to do; He would tell you what to invest in. And what I found out was that you understood worship. You had a revelation of worship and I wanted to know it; I didn’t realize that you had a book on the subject. How did you even know that worship was so important, but did God give you a revelation that worship was so important?
Norvel: Yeah 3 times Sid in 20 years God manifested Himself to me about the lack of worship that was going on in churches. He said “When I look at my church I’m sad that their lacking because people don’t worship me enough and when they don’t worship me enough they don’t live the abundant life; you can’t have abundant life if you don’t worshiping Me.” Three times in 20 years He talked to me about the lack of worship in the church. Well, I’m in LA Sid and the guy that Pastors the Eagle’s Nest Church in LA he invited me to come and stay 3 days to teach on worship so I went. And I taught on worship twice on Sunday morning, the first church on Sunday morning I taught and then they gave a break. And I had another service and they started up the second service and a man he didn’t know what I spoke on the first service; he gave a prophesy out loud and strong about the importance of worship and God really got a hold of me through that prophesy and so I sat down and I started writing that book, I said “I got to write the book.”
Sid: That’s the book we’re offering called “A Worship.” Norvel you have a handle on it that this generation does not understand; you have a handle on faith that this generation does not understand; teach me this was a question that I wanted to ask you 40 years ago. So I’ll ask you now it’s a little late “How do you worship?” What do you do normally when you worship not necessarily how long but what do you do? He’s raising his hands to God and he’s closing his eyes.
Norvel: Heavenly Father, I come to you and I worship You and I bless Your Holy Name, thank You Lord and I love You Jesus. Thank You Lord and what You’ve done for me Jesus; I want my life to count for You. Lord I want you to let me go where you want me to go; I want You to do what You what You want me to do; I want You to show me know. I worship You Jesus and I praise that wonderful Name and I praise the good Name of the Lord. And Sid I love the book of Psalms because it’s a lot of worship goes on in song.
Sid: By the way the anointing just upped when you were worshiping God to demonstrate because you were not demonstrating you were really worshiping God. I could feel a tangible presence of God increase; go ahead.
Norvel: And so I wrote that book on worship 3 times; after 3 times in 20 years He dealt with me the lack of worship, the lack of what people are receiving from Him. And I said “Well, Lord…” He said “I want you to teach My people how to talk.” I said “I go to a lot of places what do you want me to talk about?” He said “I’m not talking about that, I’m talking to the mountains and worshiping Me and talking to the mountains and making them disappear from you and worshiping Me and worshiping Me and the lack of worship cuts people’s benefits off they can’t get as much for what they want from me if they don’t worship Me. You got to put first things first the first commandment is worshiping Me loving Me with all their heart, mind and soul, and then the second commandment if you’ll notice is the scripture that is as great as the first. And that’s about loving your neighbor as yourself and poor people is your neighbors and God wants you to help them and if you’ll help them.” I started helping them about 30 years ago Sid and He said “He that feedeth the poor I will restore his health to him speedily. I will restore his health to him speedily if he feeds the poor.” About 35 years ago I started feeding the poor and I’ve been feeding the poor ever since every day; tomorrow I’ve been feeding the poor hundreds of them and God will bless you; God will bless anybody who feedeth the poor.
Sid: I’m curious I know but you have to raise a lot of money you have a home for unwed-mothers, you help the needy, you gave up a lot of your businesses because God wanted you to concentrate on the ministry. Do you use high pressure techniques to raise money, candidly between you and me.
Sid: How do you raise money is it difficult you have a big budget.
Norvel: God does it for my kids it will startle you if I tell you.
Sid: Tell me.
Norvel: Just a few days ago I won’t tell you where or when I won’t tell you the Pastors name. I spoke to a little church I love that pastor and I speak for him every year and usually twice a year he wants me to come. He has about 40, 50, 60 people and I spoke forth the other night and just a few days ago. He toke up an offering for my ministry I got through speaking plus he’s a businessman in that church wrote me a check for 50 thousand dollars plus the offering speaking to 40 or 50 people.
Sid: Are you telling me that you don’t have to use high pressure manipulative things.
Norvel: No no you don’t.
Sid: Your telling me you have to do two things you have to worship God and you have to help people that need financial help.
Norvel: And if you want to be successful in businesses; I made Jesus my business partner. I’d walk to and fro from my office and I’d tell Jesus during the day “You’re the best business partner that I’ve ever had, You’re the best business partner I’ve ever had; thank you Lord for being my business partner.” Then when He sees that you’ll feed the poor and you’ll help little kids out. I go to the city dump with my Cadillac car and tailor made suit and everything making several thousand a week. Every time I’d go the devil would say “You are crazy, what are you doing over here this is not your class of people you shouldn’t come over here.” See I knew that God wanted me to do it. And the garbage trucks would come into the city dump and little kids out there that their daddy’s left the mothers got 3 or 4 little kids and they all sleep under a tree. And the big garbage truck comes in a lot of dump trucks and they dump it out like this. And the little kids got a stick about that long and they go out there barefooted and they start moving stuff that come out of the garbage truck.
Sid: So they’re searching through the garbage because they’re starving. That has to break your heart but it has to also break God’s heart.
Norvel: The average American person that’s listening to us are in this country Sid they have no earthly idea how many American people, and I’m not talking about overseas, American people starve to death last year.
Sid: Your right we’re in a little bubble. You know like you said, someone your level doesn’t go to the garbage dump to see people that are struggling to get garbage to eat and so we’re almost like ostriches. We want to see no evil, hear no evil, taste no evil, smell no evil.
Norvel: That’s exactly right, if people would worship God and help feed the poor and stuff I’m 86 years old and I have a certain doctor that still makes house calls; him and 5 other doctors they examine me usually every year. Examine me for free they just want to do it and they examine me; they say I’ve never seen anybody like you in my life; and he says they call me all the time and says “I’ve been a doctor for 40 years I have never examined a human being as healthy as that man” and he said to me he said “The only people in the world as healthy as you are is a 17 year old boy that’s never been married.”
Sid: Hm, now what do you attribute and it’s look at 86 “What do you attribute to your supernatural health Norvel?
Norvel: Feeding the poor and worshiping the Lord.
Sid: Alright, you just heard it from Norvel Hayes one of the generals of the faith. I mean I believe we’re coming in to the most treacherous times in the history of the world, especially in the history of America. They don’t have to be treacherous for you. I believe that he’s just told you two things.
Sid: This week Monday is the Biblical, the God, the Jewish all 3 are true festival of Shavuot, otherwise known as Pentecost. We’re going to be getting to a lot about that in today’s broadcast and the next two. During Shavuot we Jewish people read from the book of Ruth.
On yesterday’s broadcast we found out that there were 2 Gentile women that became widows. One went back to her own ways her own people, she liked the old ways better she wasn’t willing to move and be adventurous in the new ways. It seems to me a lot of people are stuck they’re stuck in the last move of God’s Spirit because they’re not pressing in to God right now many are going to miss the next move of God’s Spirit. They’re feeling kind of a staleness in their congregations and they don’t understand why. It’s because we’re in between a move of God’s Spirit. We had the last move, and it’s kind of fossilized at this point, and we’re about ready to hit the next move. If you are not pressing into God, and I don’t know of a better week to begin your pressing into God than Shavuot, or Pentecost. You’re going to miss the next move of God’s Spirit and if you’re getting bitter like in the book of Ruth, Naomi literally she called herself Mara which is Hebrew for bitter because her husband died, her 2 sons died, she’s stuck with 2 daughter in laws she’s trying to get rid of these 2 daughter in laws. Many of you have become bitter because… you’re blaming your pastors and you’re blaming your churches, no no no every time you point a finger at someone else you got 3 fingers coming back at you, pointing at you. Stop blaming people this is time to get close to God. The next move of God’s Spirit is coming it’s a One New Man which is what the book of Ruth is all about because Ruth, as a Gentile, could have not followed spiritual principles, she could not have. The word here in this translation “She could not have clung to the Jew, Naomi,” but after all Zechariah 8:23 says “In the last days 10 Gentiles will cling to the hem of him who is a Jew in the last days.” Because there’s going to be, and it’s not that the Jew is going to have thee favor that yes there is always favor on the Jew because God promises it in Genesis 12:3 “I God will bless those who bless the Jewish people.” For the sake of the forefathers and the promises to the fathers God says “The blessings will be on the Jewish people, however, the greatest blessing it will bring resurrection power is when the Jew and Gentile become One New Man.” That’s what the book of Ruth is all about.
So Ruth clung to the Jew, Naomi. As a result of this she went back to Bethlehem of Judea, and she started gleaning wheat and barley from the field of Boaz, also a Jew. This Boaz had something interesting to say in Ruth the 2nd chapter 11th verse: “Boaz replied,” he’s talking to Ruth, “I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband.” So you see Ruth had favor because she clung to a Jew.
Then the 12th verse: “May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly” this is what Boaz is saying to this Gentile. “May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” Because Ruth clung to the Jew Naomi look at what happened the blessings in her life. She married the wealthiest guy in town, Boaz, she not only married Boaz but Naomi got life, life literally poured into Naomi because of the Jew and the Gentile coming together.
The 16th verse of the 4th chapter of Ruth: “Then Naomi took the child” by this point they had a child whose name was Obed. “Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him.” She was no longer called Mara, she was no longer called bitter, she was no longer a barren woman because she now had a grandchild, and it was impossible for her to have a grandchild. God says “If you’ll put me first, acknowledge me in all of your ways I will direct your path.” She walked right into the blessings because the Jew and Gentile combined. Do you know how many blessings occurred? Well the son’s name was Obed, or Naomi’s grandson’s name was Obed. Guess what, he was the grandfather of King David. Now that’s the type of fruit that comes when a Jew and Gentile come together.
A lot of people when they celebrate Pentecost they do not know it is a God festival. They do not know it is a Biblical festival, and God says even more “It is My feasts.” At Pentecost Jewish people were gathered because it was the God festival of Shavuot. That’s why they were in the upper room. So… let’s turn to that by the way in Acts the 2nd chapter, in Acts 2 it says “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit” and that’s key. The question is how empty are you of yourself that you can be filled? They were FILLED to overflowing. How would you like to be filled to overflowing with the Spirit of the living God? They were filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. A lot of people miss this, but if they were filled with the Holy Spirit then they began to speak in other tongues. A lot of people don’t realize this, but it is you do the speaking and God gives you the words.
“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.” What were they speaking in all these different languages because at Pentecost Jews had to come, according to Leviticus 23rd chapter to Jerusalem, and they had to come from every nation. So therefore, when they were speaking in tongues they were speaking languages that every nation, and even not just languages dialects of every nation. This is what they were saying in a language that the people speaking didn’t understand. It says “We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” Then they were accused of having too much wine.
When I first became a believer in the Messiah as a Jewish believer in the Messiah, I remember how intrigued I was with unknown tongues. I remember some Christians talking to me about it and I remember saying “Do you speak in tongues?” They said “Yes!” I said “Could I hear you do this?” They said “Yes” and they began to speak in unknown tongues. Then when I became a believer I asked to be filled with the Holy Spirit and be given a prayer language. The language that… I began speaking immediately a language I had never been instructed. Then almost immediately I had it in my head “You’re just making that language up.” So I stopped using that language for a while. Then one day I was praying with an Orthodox rabbi who had accepted Jesus as His Messiah. A woman came forward who was pregnant, but the baby was dead inside of her. She said “The doctors have said my baby is dead but will you pray for my baby?” So the rabbi and I put our hands on her and we began to pray. The only thing… I mean I didn’t have enough faith to pray for the resurrection of that baby, but I prayed in my unknown tongues, I don’t know why but I did. The rabbi looked at me and he said “Sid you’re praying in an ancient form, an ancient dialect of Hebrew. You just said ‘The Spirit of the child is with God the Father.’” I’ll tell you something I never doubted my unknown tongue after, but the truth of the matter is without faith you can’t please God. Many of you will not pray with an Orthodox rabbi who’s accepted Jesus. No I take it back I pray that many of you pray with an Orthodox rabbi that has accepted Jesus because this is God’s time, this is time for Him to pour out His Spirit on Jewish people especially in the United States and in Canada.
Sid RothComments Off on Our Guests Isaiah and Carol Reed
Sid: My guest by way of telephone at his home in Houston, Texas is Isaiah, and shortly we’ll be talking to his wife Carol Reed. We found out on yesterday’s broadcast that Isaiah was a drug dealer, he was considered, and there was a newspaper article that called him the most vicious pimp in Hawaii. He was making something like $27 million a year I mean this was big time stuff, but he came from 5 generations of pastors. He told me before we went on the air that his genealogy is Jewish and Jamaican. We were talking a bit about my book “The Race to Save the World.” I want to get back Isaiah this is unbelievable you’re doing a drug deal, and they shoot you twice in the head these Columbians, they stab you 16 times, a car runs you over, you’re pronounced dead, dead, dead. They take you I assume to the hospital?
Isaiah: That was after… the reason my body was discovered a lady cut through the alley I guess for the purpose of a shortcut. Anyway, that’s how I got discovered. If she hadn’t decided to take a shortcut through the alley I probably would have been laying there several days. Anyway she cut through the alley and ran over me so she thought when she saw the blood that she had did the damage. Anyway the long and the short of it, they discovered the body they took me to Denver General Hospital, but during that time my associate that wanted to retire knew that something was amiss because I normally would be back in a reasonable time. I mean if you’re not back in a reasonable time something went wrong. So he found out I was murdered he retaliated and caught one of the Columbians and anyway in the course of that retaliation the police officer stumbled across the shooting and they got involved. The shootout broke out between himself and 6 police officers. Anyway, the 6 police officers were shot they shot him 6 times and so we all ended up at Denver General Hospital; the 6 police officers, my associate that wanted to retire, and myself. So he’s dead, I’m dead and the police officers are injured. They begin to gather the evidence to put this Columbian in jail and charge him with the murder of my life because during the time of the shootout when they murdered my associate the Columbian that he had kidnapped was there. So they needed the bullets out of my brain and my spine for the evidence. Of course, a lot of other things happened during that time, but anyway just to shorten it they ended up calling my mother who was in Buffalo, New York…
Sid: I’ll tell you what, hold that thought right now, because before this broadcast we interviewed your mom and I want to see it from her perspective what happened. Let’s go to that telephone call with his mother Sennie Reed.
Excerpt from Telephone Call:
Sid: I have on the telephone Isaiah’s mother, Sennie Reed. I’m speaking to her at her home in Buffalo, New York. Sennie got a phone call from the doctor about her son Isaiah. What did he say Sennie?
Sennie: The doctor says “We have your son here in the autopsy room. He was pronounced dead on arrival here at Denver General Hospital.” He said… he began to describe some of the things he was seeing inside of Isaiah. He was attempting to do the autopsy, and he said “He had bled to death due to gun wounds and he had been stabbed.” He began to talk and I said “Well I need to make contact with him” I needed to make contact with him. At that time I didn’t know they was monitoring me where I could be heard over the hospital. So I asked him if he would put the phone to Isaiah’s ear so I could call on, you know, call on the Lord Jesus for him that he might be saved. I know he could still hear me, I believed he could still hear me. So when he put the phone to his ear I began to pray I began to pray, and I’m one of those tongue talkers as they call it. The power of the Holy Ghost came over me and I began to speak in tongues.
Sid: If you were praying for him right now what did you say I want to hear that?
Sennie: Lord You promised You promised me that my son would be saved. You promised that I would see him saved. I cannot accept this phone call that he’s dead that is not my son because my son is saved and full of the Holy Ghost. Lord You promised me a prophet and not a pimp. I began to call life. Life, life, life back into that body, and I understand that as I began to call life back into his body he began to breathe again.
Sid: What did the doctor’s think?
Sennie: They said… one doctor said “That he had been in practice for over 40 years and he had never ever seen anything like that in his whole life.” He said “They didn’t know what to do with him because they had never witnessed anything like that.”
Sid: Isaiah how in the world could you say to the doctors after that great miracle happened when your mom prayed “Thank you doctors you did a good job.”
Isaiah: Well once again in order for me to acknowledge the supernatural or a supreme being, or God, I would have to be challenged to change. So to avoid the challenge to change once again I chose to choose the natural human appreciation. So of course I went to the doctors and I said “It wasn’t my mother’s prayer, yes she intervened it was the skillful knowledge of the surgeon, the doctor’s ability what they have learned through books and things that have been passed down.”
Sid: So what was their response to what you said?
Isaiah: He said he really don’t know why I was alive.
Sid: So Isaiah 3 years pass after this miraculous event and you’re at a Christmas party. What happened?
Isaiah: Well basically we was dealing drugs and really kind of celebrating that the drugs had been selling really good, money was coming in so we started keeping a couple of the prostitutes there in the penthouse suite with us. One of the other drug dealers, which was an undercover police officer he stayed there as well. Just was gonna celebrate the New Year then… you know the product was selling so good. Anyway the long and the short of that is that about, we started December 23rd but December 27th about 11:11 – 11:15 or so one of the prostitutes Lisa began to get rather hysterical and wanted to commit suicide, she wanted to jump off the balcony and kill herself…
Sid RothComments Off on Our Guests Marty & Jennifer Goetz
Sid: My guest many of you are familiar with him is Messianic Jewish recording artist Marty Goetz. And most of you probably don’t know much about his background. Actually you have a very similar background to me Marty you grew up in a traditional Jewish home in Cleveland and your grandparents were from Russia and Poland. My grandparents were from Russia and Poland. Yours was more of a conservative up bringing mine was closer to Orthodox. Just out of curiosity as a young man if someone were to say to you after Bar Mitzvah let’s say let’s say “What do you think of God?” What do you think you might have said? They probably would not have said that to you though.
Marty: First of all, hi and thanks for having me on and I would say that you are a little more authentic than I because I can tell by the way that you speak that you are a little farther east than I. I grew up in Cleveland and you sound like you are a little more east coast so.
Sid: Washington DC that’s everything but. (Laughing)
Marty: Closer to Ellis Island so. But they would ask me about God I probably would have said “Well, you know I go to Temple on the High Holidays and I celebrate Passover. And my great-grandfather was a tzadik, he was a scholar spent his life studying Talmud. My grandfather was orthodox and we celebrated Shabbos as we call it Shabbat every Friday night. And I would probably say that I’m a good Jew and I don’t need to know much more than that.
Sid: Well you went to Carnegie College in Pittsburgh and you found a friend there and then you went to another area that I was very familiar with the Catskill Mountains; the borscht belt.
Marty: The borscht belt.
Sid: What did you do there?
Marty: Well, the fellow that I met in college was the first one that I would say that confronted me with the reality of… he certainly didn’t say Yeshua haMachiach as Messianic Believers say. He said “Jesus Christ.” And he was of course a Methodist, raised Methodist, a very nice guy and we were together in Pittsburgh. I went to Carnegie Mellon University and he went to a business college there in Pittsburgh. He was a few years older than I. The way we got together was he was part of a little troop of performers under the tutelage of a guy named Don Brocket whose claim to fame was he was Chef Brocket on the Mr. Rogers show. Mr. Roger was filmed in Pittsburgh.
Marty: And Don Brocket put togetherthese little views of performers. Burt had a wonderful tenor, Welsh tenor voice and I was a piano player with a little bit more of saloon singer sound. And we were put together in a bunch of different shows and Don had a show that went all the way to off Broadway. It was called “Sweet Feet” I don’t know if anyone was at any one of three performances.
Sid: Somehow I don’t think so Marty. (Laughing)
Marty: But it closed and when it closed Burt and I had really nothing to do and we decided, Don actually decided to put us together and make a little singing act out of it. I would play piano and sing and Burt would stand up and sing. And we did “Snappy Patter.” And we did “Show Tunes” and melodies from “West Side Story” and “Fiddler on the Roof” and that kind of fare. And when I graduated college Burt and I decided to make a shot at the big time; so we moved to New York and in New York we hooked up with an agent after about 2 weeks after being in New York. And she was the booking agent for a place called the Brickman Hotel up in the Catskills, the Borscht Belt, the Jewish Alps. And she hired us to be kind of like the house singers for the Brickman; we sang there many many times during the summer. Then she also would book us in all of the local hotels like Kutshers, Grossinger’s and the Browns.
Sid: Now those I remember because my uncle is as you might know his name was Jay Jason he was a comedian in the Borscht Belt and summers I used to travel with him. And so I would go to all of these great places.
Marty: Awe how great.
Sid: And eat that great food and…
Sid: And the great entertainment but I don’t remember hearing you but I understand that you were really doing well with your partner until he got religious on you.
Marty: Well our name was Burt and Marty very cleverly.
Marty: And we won the Best New Act in the Catskills our first season up there and then we went into the city and did a couple of club dates and we were making some pretty good progress. As you said “Burt became religious.” He went from just becoming just a Bible toting Methodist to a fully Pentecostal Born Again Christian. He had an experience at the place called the “Rock Church” which is in Manhattan and after that he was just a different guy you know; he wasn’t just a religious guy he was fully on fire for God.
Sid: And so did you put up with him or what happened with your relationship?
Marty: As I tell people he became Pentecostal and felt it was his obligation to Pente-Cost me…
Marty: And no I could not stand it; as a matter of fact everybody that knew me thought of me as a very kind of soft spoken kind of kind of easy going guy. But he provoked such anger in me because I thought this was horrible; how did I end up with this religious freak, this Jesus freak. I felt sorry for myself, and I felt angry at whoever God was I felt angry at somebody that I had to be hearing about this and it embarrassed me. And I wanted to be in my 20’s I just wanted to get out in the world and do all the things that the world had to offer.
Sid: But yeah, but wait a second now you’re winning rewards and you’re doing well with this guy but just because he believed in Jesus you’re going to breakup with him?
Marty: Absolutely, it was horrifying to me I just could not stand being around him or anything he said. And also I thought “Well, this is not good because if we do well together then I’m stuck with him.” (Laughing) And he was a great guy and I liked him as a friend but I just could not stand the thought of being tethered to somebody who was this kind of what I thought was fanatical. So I basically one day said “I can’t do this anymore,” we broke up Burt and Marty, I don’t know if you read about it in the papers.
Sid: Not lately anyway. (Laughing)
Marty: We broke it up and I went and I just kind of starting playing in saloons and clubs and bars and any kind of bar that New York had to offer I played in. And Burt went on and continued to sing in the Catskills and it’s so funny that the Gentile from Altoona. And I ended up going into the bars in Manhattan, but Burt was a very tenacious guy and he wasn’t going to let me go and he would… he and his friends would show up… I played at this place called Beefsteak Charlies which is a restaurant with a piano bar. And he would show up with his friends and they’d come in and they’d sit around and they’d wait for me to finish my sets and they would have no qualms about telling me that Jesus loved me and had a plan for my life and I should know about Him because after all Burt would say Jewish people wrote the Bible and Jesus was Jewish. “Therefore Marty as my friend you ought to consider it.” But it just made me more and more angry and upset; so it wasn’t enough to break up the act I had to leave New York. This was in New York City, leave New York all together.
Sid: Now just left New York you went to the other coast I mean you really wanted to get away from it you went to California.
Marty: You got to go where people are normal so I move to Los Angles.
Marty: So I ended up in Los Angles in 1978 and the only person that I really really knew there… well I knew a few people there but the person that I knew best was ironically one of Burt’s friends from the Rock Church who also was a also a Catskill Performer named Ann Alt. She had an act with a fellow named Michael in the Catskill Mountains as well. But she had moved to California about 6 months to a year before; so when I got there I looked her up. Oh I went to California with nothing, I just went… I had been writing some songs with my cousin, and I thought they were pretty good. So I stuffed a backpack and got a few hundred dollars together and headed to the West Coast and kind of hung out with Annie because she was you know a born again Christian too and she wanted to see me know God. She was all too happy to befriend me and to help me out there. And I have to confess that even though I was provoked to anger, but as the scripture says “I was provoked to jealousy.” So on my way to California, ironically I stopped in Cleveland, low and behold in the bookshelf in Cleveland was one of the big fat family Bibles.
Sid: I’ll tell you what. “Hold that thought right there.”
Marty: Yes Sir.
Sid: I want you to hear Mishpochah a selection from his latest album; it’s called “Sanctuary.” And there is such a sweet presence of God; such a calming. Some of you, you know been through the wars in this earth, in this life you’ve been through the wars. I want you to hear just a little bit. Let’s go to the selection “Song of Deliverance.”
